Section 1.5 states that the lease holds tenants both jointly and severally liable. This means that each tenant is individually responsible for the terms and conditions of the lease, as well as having a combined responsibility.
For example, if your roommate decides not to follow the lease terms and causes your property to incur a fine, you can hold them accountable personally, but the fine will go to the entire property. Everyone on the lease is responsible for charges and following terms.
What does this mean for you?
MiddleTown is unable to get involved with any disputes between residents on the lease. We cannot mediate for you, but we do offer incident reports to record any problems that may arise that you would like noted. If there is a safety issue, we recommend calling law enforcement to take care of the situation and supplying us with the police report. All financial disputes between residents will need to be dealt with within the household.
